Frontiers

Journey’s ninth album, released in February of 1983. Frontiers continues in the direction of the band’s previous album’s hook-heavy arena rock, albeit with a darker tone. Like its predecessor, Frontiers was a massive hit on release, reaching #2 on the Billboard charts, and spawning a Top 10 single (Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)), a Top 20 single (Faithfully), and two Top 40 singles (After the Fall and Send Her My Love). Music videos were created for all four singles, as well as “Chain Reaction”, despite the song not being released as a single.

Frontiers was re-released in 2006 with four bonus tracks: “Only the Young”, “Ask the Lonely” and “Only Solutions”, from the soundtrack albums Vision Quest, Two of a King (Music From the Motion Picture) and Tron (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) respectively, as well as “Liberty”, an out-take from the Frontiers sessions. “Only the Young” and “Ask the Lonely” were originally slated for inclusion on Frontiers, but were held for soundtrack appearances and replaced with “”Back Talk” and “Troubled Child”, contributing to the album’s harder sound.
