To help avoid any confusion with some of our listings, I wanted to clarify how Coalescesion uses certain terminology for the various formats and releases we carry. Historically, when describing a full-length release, the terms ‘LP’, ‘album’, or ‘record’ is typically used synonymously with a vinyl release. While the definition for an LP or Long Play, technically does refer to vinyl (as the term(s) existed when vinyl ruled the day), it’s also indicative of the length (likewise for EPs, or the in-between, mini-LPs). Since we carry CDs and vinyl (plus various other formats from time to time), we prefer to distinguish releases by their media and programming types and not use some of these terms so interchangeably.
Because generally, wouldn’t you also refer to a full-length release, regardless of which media it’s on, as an LP or album? I always have, and I grew up with cassettes and CDs.
